Marni Fashion

Unique is a word I would use to describe Marni. The words bohemian, eclectic, avant-garde, modern, futuristic and chic also come to mind when I think of Marni.

Born designer are two words I would use to describe Marni Chief Designer, Consuelo Castiglioni. And born lucky are two more. Why? Because she has no training in fashion and yet Consuelo is always ahead of trends, making them - not following them. But how would I define Marni?

Marni was founded in 1994 and is named after Consuelo Castiglioni's sister, Marni. Consuelo is also married to Gianni Castiglioni, Marni's CEO. Marni is one of the few remaining family owned and operated fashion businesses. The Castiglioni family are manufacturers and suppliers of fur to the great fashion houses of Europe and so it comes as no surprise that the first collection Consuelo designed for Marni was a fur collection. Her clever designs and presenting it in a way that had not been seen before - non-traditional, easy to wear, "dyeing it, doing it without a lining, with just a little bit of string to close it," she explained to Vogue in 2007, led to her designing a ready-to-wear line for the label.

Consuelo is known for designing quirky, feminine combinations of bright colors, bold graphic patterns, elaborate fantasy prints, and natural textures.

“I design what I like to wear myself. It's how I started and how I continue to work. I do not have a muse, other than different elements that I like.” —Consuelo Castiglioni

The result is wearable and elegant clothing, but offbeat with a funky aesthetic that is ultimately a look that can be worn by women of a broad age spectrum - not something that many labels can claim.

Innovative technical fabrics and over-sized accessories feature prevalently as well as bright neons and crazy mixed-up prints. Consuelo's signature shapes, tunics, belted sack dresses and cardigans and her quirky grandma magpie aesthetic rings true and is probably my favourite aspect of the label.

The Marni design aesthetic, according to their website is - "Precise attributes, eclectic style, especially researched, refined materials and a production quality that ensures garments maintain a tailored aspect. The whole infused with a creativity that makes Marni collections unique in the fashion landscape." Using silks, cashmeres, fur and other couture fabrics, Consuelo conceptualises creations that cross the lines between avant-garde and couture clothing. Marni "prides itself on its Italian heritage" - its entire line is made in Italy, and does not have any licensees.

Marni also has a unique view of advertising, saving thousands of dollars by deciding not to use a static advertising image and preferring instead to leave it up to "the editors of the world to express their artistic versatility" and thereby gaining a broad range of editorial coverage in the world's top fashion magazines. Very clever indeed.

So who is the Marni woman? What type of woman is she? I think she is a woman who knows herself very well, she is confident in her style and likes to dress for herself. She is eclectic, bohemian and of course, chic from top to toe. Marni has a a cheerful ethic, I feel happy just looking at Consuelo's gorgeous designs.

The label also designs accessories, children's-wear, menswear and rugs. Castiglioni has ultimately defined Marni as a house of unusual shapes and idiosyncratic prints that have a consummately wearable appeal. "When I wear a Marni piece, it feels like it was made specifically for me."
- Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, a devoted fan of Marni. Other fans include Gwyneth Paltrow, Kyra Sedgwick and artist Cindy Sherman.
Early design features included idiosyncratic prints and vintage-inspired shapes and fabrics; Marni has retained these elements but has become more streamlined. Other Marni hallmarks include juxtapositions of texture; color-blocking; a palette focused on gray, beige, and blue, in which bright colors are interspersed; and unusual shapes, such as bell hemlines, gathering and asymmetry.

At the Marni Spring '09 show, Consuelo sent down the runway her usual suspects of colourful mixed prints, chunky platforms with knee-socks, signature bags and resin jewellery, reminding us that we don't have to let the doom and gloom of the recession infiltrate our wardrobe.

Another interesting little tidbit about Marni is their stores. In tune with their image in movement, the architecture of their stores, designed by Sybarite of London, based on a high-tech concept modified and adapted to each location. Each store has its own colour theme, "thus ensuring the uniqueness of Marni stores across the planet".

In just over a decade Marni has achieved cult fashion status with eclectic accessories and a cool quirky joi de vivre that has seen Marni become one of Milan's hottest labels and has earned Consuelo Castiglioni a loyal following.

Thank you, Consuelo, for reminding us that fashion is fun.

Max me polly!

The diva behind the game?-Danimezza
This weeks theme-
maxi skirt

I love maxi skirts.
They are so comfy, light weight and simple to dress & accesories.
My favorite type of maxi is the cotton one-
It's perfect as its fitted and then loosens to still create a flowing hem line.
Add a matching tank top & break up the monocrome with a chunky belt to accentuate your waist.
Summery strapy sandles are great for maxi's & they match the belt ;)
Add a cute sadle bag, Chuncky bangles and a statement cocktail ring to add a dash of Bohemian to your look!
For make-up all you need is a dramatic somkey eye to bring colour to your face.

Whats your favorite maxi?
love.x.

Summer Fashion

Summer Fashion 2009

As we have said in previous notes, “retro” or antique style is still “in” and every time, now the 70s also joined this summer 2009.

You must have in your closet, clothes stamped with flowers, much color, and pants with it entirely elephant foot (like oxford but a little less aperture).

The hippie style, peace and love is here again, a little more modern, with some ethnic details. The elephant leg pants, blouses, printed tunics with details of stones, fringed vests, jean shorts, long fringed skirt and trousers with a batik effect. Also, dresses with prints or crochet.

The key are the accessories: well wide-brimmed hats the best style Bianca Jagger, mix with necklaces, giant bracelets, portfolios type belt, scarves. The tip: To keep this look, we have to feel identified with it and after the 30 should not abuse this trend.

The prints are the stars of the summer. Use the flowers, butterflies and the Bulgarians. Also an African art and paintings inspired by the animal print is already a commodity. Any of these prints is dressed in shorts, maxis or short skirt or type evasée with tables, pijama pants type, shirts with short sleeves and detail of flights, shorts or wide waist high and trenches. The accessories of the summer are also 09 prints: handbags, shoes, hats and scarves. It is often combined with one another: flowers with butterflies or flowers and animal print. For more classic mix the voucher prints with smooth options. The tip: keep accessories in the same range as the pattern and not to abuse the mixtures.

Another trend that stands out in the summer is the 09 prints inspired by the jungle, where imposing the colors green, brown, yellow and black. The same applies for this look: shorts linen jackets and coats, the best style Saint-Laurent. As a last detail: necklaces and bracelets made of wood or with ethnic details. The tip: It is preferred to combine these prints with smooth garments.

This summer the ultra Shocking colors are being more than ever. The motto is: the more flour, the better. Fuchsia, orange, turquoise, yellow and bright green carried the lead followed by lilac. Teams are used in monochrome or in combination with each other. At the time of mixing, any combination is valid: yellow with fuchsia, turquoise with fuchsia. The more adventurous can take up to three colors fluo at once. In dresses, pants, jackets, minis, shorts and robes threaten to be the great protagonists of the new season. The invasion also comes to accessories: bags, shoes, necklaces, bracelets, scarves and plain patterns, flowers on their heads, glasses and belts. The tip: take it if it takes less than 30 with humor and whether it has more than 30 in moderation, mixed with neutral tones.

The big players are the foot of the elephant and also waist high. Some models come like fisherman and the masculine classic does not lose force. It is generally used with a casual look, with blouses, shirts and tunics, without discarding muscular body and ultra basic T-shirts. The vests are added to complement the pants of the 09 summer like the jackets and trenches. The tip: classic cut pants are the easiest to combine. Elephant foot requires height and stylized silhouettes.

Another tip is modal or silk, are carried in many different models: type strapless, with crossover neckline or a V-necked round and even short sleeves or 3 / 4. They come with either leg or foot wide elephant. Figures are for stylized and, in addition, are worth cardigans. Feet: high-rise blocks, which are valid for stylizing. Another detail: patent leather belts to highlight the waist are welcome. The tip: The neutral tones such as gray or black are better.

Summer Fashion Beach

hot summer tips imageSummer fashion is heating up. From sporty and chic to lighter and brighter patterns, but first of all you must remember few important things to really look great and amazing this hot season.

1. Sun protection
Always wear a sunscreen. No matter where you are – at the beach, at work or at home, always wear sunscreen. The sun’s UV rays can easily damage your skin. The sun radiation make your skin age prematurely, change the skin’s structure and can form dark spots. Using sunscreens now would definitely deliver benefits later in life.

2. Let your skin breath
Leave the foundation off. Seriously, there is nothing worse than seeing a woman with greasy foundation. During the day use lighter products such as face powder or concealer and apply them only to the problem areas. You can use a little foundation in the evening to create more even base for the makeup, but choose oil-free product. Let your skin breath, even for a while.

3. Sun-kissed tan
A sun-kissed tan can make wonders for your appearance. Applying bronzers and bronzing powders are wonderful ways to give your face a sun-kissed tan.

4. Light shades
Keep the dark eyeshadows for the evening. Summer is the time for the light shades, close to your natural skin tone. A little sheen at the edge of the brows and brown mascara will liven up your face.

5. Water impermeability
We advise you not to go to the beach wearing makeup, but if you can’t – use waterproof products. Use waterproof mascara – it won’t dissolve in water, but never, never go to the beach wearing foundation or face powder.

6. Summer glow
Buy body lotion with light-reflecting ingredients and apply it to the whole body, but don’t forget to exfoliate your body beforehand. Your body will be dazzlingly and healthy-looking.

7. Fresh cheekbones
Use blusher to add color to your face and to warm up your skin. Smile and apply it with a wide sable brush to the cheeks.

8. Lovely feet
Do a pedicure to enhance the appearance of your feet – use light colors, pink, peachy, red and blue are appropriate for the hot summer months.

9. Protect your hair
Yes, as well as the skin, the hair is also susceptible to sun damage - use hair products with SPF protection, wear hats or head scarves.

10. Sun protection
Our first advice was to protect your skin from the sun, and it is the same and now. It’s really very important. Even if you don’t wear any makeup a sunscreen is a must.

So by doing this tips, I can assure you that you will be having very beautiful summer season coming ahead of you.

First Impressions: The School & date edition.

First Impressions last forever.
So it's genuinely a good idea to make a
presentable & respective one.
When it comes to first impressions for school & first dates this is easily achieved if you know what your looking for::
Neat-
hair & appearance.
Neutral-
Make-up & jewelry
Basic-
colours & cuts

For example;
This is my outfit for my first day at Billy blue
(well close to it)

school
The key is simplicity.
Simple cuts,
shoes &
make-up.

This top is a great example:
its a perfect cut for most body types
and the shoulder to waist detail is cute
but style neutral so it doesn't over power.

I love my accessories so this bracelet set is a must for me; the colours keep with the simple theme but are still ultra stylish!

Simple neutral or nude make-up is a must for this look-you don't want to get a barbie rep. =/

Nice jeans are a great way to dress down a semi fancy top and keep the look casual.
(Avoid rips or details-for the love of fashion, please!)

One tip I can not stress enough when it comes to a school outfit:
No heels, trust me its not a good idea.
Ballet flats, sandles & boots are your best investment.
If you must have a heel, make it a small one...
(But no kitten heels please, we aren't seven! lol )
So whats your go to pieces of fashion for a great first impression?
love,
